Jan - Office Manager

I was born and raised in Southern California and moved to Lake Havasu City during high school; where I met and went onto marry my high school sweetheart. Together we have two children and six grandchildren.

I started my dental career working for a local Tucson consulting firm. Within two years I was the trainer for our team and all of our clients. I trained them on our front office systems and strategies. I am very detailed, organized person, which lends itself to the career path if have chosen. I make sure I have all the information you need before you walk through the door and ensure you are always fully informed.

I love working with Dr. Yu. Most people do not like to be at the dentist, but together we create an environment that makes patients feel welcome, comfortable, and that they are in good hands – both clinically (Dr. Yu) and administratively. I aim to help you understand your insurance and strive to find a way to make dentistry more affordable for you.

I got into dentistry when I was looking for a stable career and had a toothache. After going to a dentist and talking to their assistants I decided to go back to school for assisting and never looked back!

After graduating I worked with a prosthodontist and implant specialist for almost two years until I started working with Dr.Yu in 2009. I enjoy being able to talk with our patients and make them feel part of our family. It truly is a unique privilege!

Lindsay - Clinical Assistant

I have lived in Tucson since 2003, though I am originally from a small community in Northwestern Illinois, where I met my husband 20 years ago. We have been married since 2011, and we have a beautiful daughter. She is the light of our lives.

I’ve been in dentistry since 2005. Most of my tenure has been in oral surgery assisting but I have recently found a new passion in general dentistry. I am a Certified Dental Assistant with certification in x-rays and anesthesia assisting.

I began pursuing dentistry as a career due to the need for experienced people in the field. I started to realize that my personality fits very well with helping people feel comfort in their treatment. I have a very positive outlook on life and typically have a big smile on my face. I especially enjoy helping people overcome their dental fear by making them feel comfortable in the chair.

What do you do outside of the office?

I like spending time with my husband and daughter at home. We love to travel. One of my passions is music. I greatly enjoy singing and listening to many genres of music.

Who is your hero?

My Pappaw. He was an accomplished Major for the USAF. He traveled the globe and fought for my freedom. He has since retired and is now in his late 90’s and plays cards and ballroom dances!

What’s one item on your bucket list?

To travel the countrysides of Ireland and discover more about my ancestry.

What’s your spirit animal?

A starfish. It symbolizes renewal and regeneration into a better self. I am always striving to be the best version of myself I can be.

Gail - Insurance Coordinator

I was born in Northeast Ohio but grew up in Scottsdale. I’m the oldest of nine children – eight girls and one boy. After meeting my future husband at a mutual friend’s daughters wedding, I moved to Tucson.

I knew I wanted to work in the dental field since I was a teenager. I have now done so for many years, starting as an assistant and then moving to the front office and eventually as an office manager. I had a six-year gap to care for my father-in-law but am now back working two to three days a week at SmileMore Dental.

My primary responsibility is dealing with the different insurance plans that Dr. Yu accepts and managing the claims. I love my job, and it shows. I enjoy working with people and helping you get the best information about your benefits.

What do you do outside of the office?

I love antiques – furniture, German dolls, and their accessories, and vintage glassware. It’s the thrill of the hunt! My hubby and I have a 30’s Model A hot rod and love going to car shows and cruises.

Who is your hero?

My hero is my Dad, who gave me my work ethic. He helped me learn the value of personal integrity too.

What’s one item on your bucket list?

To see New England in the fall.

What’s your spirit animal?

A lion. It points to strength, courage, assertiveness, and mastering my own self-control.

Karla - Dental Hygienist

I have lived in Tucson for over 20 years but am originally from North Dakota. I grew up in a small town of 2,000 people and enjoyed playing sports as a youngster. I moved to Tucson during high school, and later married my husband, Brandon. We have a daughter named McKenna.

During my senior year, my Dad sat me down to find out which career sparked my interest. We went through the classifieds and dental assisting had the most openings, which caught my eye. After being an assistant for a few years, I decided to go back to school to further my career as a hygienist. I graduated as a Registered Dental Hygienist in 2009 and have not looked back since. In fact, I’ve taken strides forward and achieved certification in local anesthetic, CPR, and laser dentistry.

I thoroughly enjoy helping others and find it very rewarding to see the progress patients make between appointments. I’m a team player and try to show positivity at all times.

What do you do outside of the office?

I enjoy watching my daughter play soccer, going to movies, bowling, playing board games, traveling, and spending time with my family.

Who is your hero?

My Mom. She raised three girls on her own and worked hard to support us. She always made sure we had food and a roof over our head.

What’s one item on your bucket list?

To spend Thanksgiving in New York and watch the Macy’s Day Parade. I’d love to go shopping and see the big Christmas tree.

What’s your spirit animal?

A kangaroo. I like to take care of my babies and keep them close. I’m not afraid to stand up for my family.

Brenda - Dental Hygienist

I was born and raised in Southern California. I grew up on a mini-farm with plenty of animals and a big garden. The best part of my life is my two kids (twins), Olivia and Christopher, who were born in 2000. We have lived several different places including New Hampshire and moved to Tucson in 2004. I have been lucky in that wherever I have moved, I have ended up in a dental practice that has great clinicians who continue to learn and grow with new advances in dentistry. I love passing on this knowledge to our patients and being able to deliver high-quality care.

I’ve always wanted a job that involves helping people. I was considering physical therapy when my sister convinced me to take a dental assisting course with her. I fell in love with the dental field. We both graduated from the program and then continued on into dental hygiene. It was fun being each other’s guinea pig in the dental chair.

Since then, I have over 35 years experience as a dental assistant and hygienist. I have continued to pursue continued education and completed courses in local anesthesia, laser dentistry, and so much more!

What do you do outside of the office?

I love Sunday dinners and cards with my parents and my kids. I regularly cheer on my kids at basketball and rugby games.

Who is your hero?

My father and mother (Dale and Sharon) for their love and commitment to each other and our family.

What’s one item on your bucket list?

Hiking the Camino de Santiago.

What’s your spirit animal?

A horse – I’m hard working and steady but can kick up my heels (buck) a bit too.

Mary - Dental Hygienist

I grew up in a small copper mining town about an hour north of Oro Valley. I met my husband, Nick, in college and we have four boys.

Growing up in a small town our access to dental care was pretty scarce. However, I spent a lot of time at the dentist for multiple reasons. My hygienist was great and educated me on proper dental care, prevention, and the profession as a whole. This led me to start volunteering with her as a dental hygiene assistant, which I really enjoyed!

Later on, I decided to attend Dental Hygiene School and have been a hygienist since 2009. I’m a pretty social person so enjoy getting to know my co-workers and our patients. I love to learn about their history, family, and travels – I truly look forward to the catch up at each visit. I also enjoy helping apprehensive patients feel at ease and showing them that dentistry can be comfortable.

What do you do outside of the office?

I enjoy spending time making memories and volunteering with my kids through their sports. We also like to travel and see new things. My husband and I remodel old houses and spend time with our church community.

Who is your hero?

My Mom. I admire her ability to grow in her profession and still be an amazing mother.

What’s one item on your bucket list?

I would love to go to Italy and go sightseeing, eat the local food, and shop.

What’s your spirit animal?

A jaguar. I am a very loyal person and have the ability to adapt to change.

I have been so impressed by the professionalism of Dr. Yu and his entire staff. Being greeted by name and a smile immediately puts me at ease. The hygienists are very good and gentle and take time to discuss options for improving my regular dental care. Dr. Yu is up to date with the latest advancements in restorative care and actually produced and fitted a new crown in just a one, two-hour appointment.
